Vases offer the perfect finishing touch to an interior - bringing a style together, adding a touch of colour and texture, and, if filled with flowers, a natural feel. The way a vase is styled is just as important as the vase itself – so here is our guide on how to perfectly select and style a vase!

Picking The Perfect Vase For Your Interior

The most obvious place to start when styling a vase is with the vase itself, so be sure to pick the perfect vase for you and the style of your home.

If your home is designed with a particular colour scheme or aesthetic effect in mind, make sure the vase fits it – no matter how insignificant you think that might be. The last thing you want for something as minute as a vase is for it to clash with your theme!

Keeping this in mind, choose your vase. You could go for something natural and dramatic like the Muubs Story Vases in Grey Terracotta, or simple but grand like the HK Living Greek Column Vases, or perhaps something wacky but charming like the Nordal AVAJI Lower Body Vase

Styling The Vase

Once you’ve picked the perfect vase, we can begin styling. Here are the very best ideas for vase placement and some tips you need to know!

  • Place your vase on top of your bookshelf or on the shelves themselves – if the vase is the right shape and size, it could act as a bookend. This works particularly well with a neutral-toned vase with leafy plants.
  • Adding a tall vase to a desk or sideboard can make it look taller and livelier, especially a statement vase with some flowers.
  • Try an interesting vase by the front door to catch the eye of your guests, something unique and stylish, featuring bright flowers.
  • An elegant vase of flowers can be featured as the centrepiece of your dining table.
  • Arrange several empty vases on a shelf, on a trolley, like the Dutchbone Consuela Metal and Wood Shelf, or in a display cabinet.
  • Pair vases of different sizes – for example; a small,  wide, circular vase like the Endo Reclaimed Iron Globe Planter, contrasted with a taller, slimmer vase, like the Dutchbone Hari Slim Antique Brass Vase.

Styling The Flowers

Once you’ve selected your favourite vase that’s ideal for your space, it’s time to choose what you’re going to put in it:

  • Fresh flowers are ideal, but using artificial or dried flowers also has so many benefits, like having great-looking flowers all year round, even through the winter months.
  • If you’re working with a bunch of flowers, create a base with your desired greenery to get the perfect shape that you are looking for.
  • The theme of your flowers is up to you, of course, but having some sort of colour theme really helps to bring it all together. You could arrange one colour or type of flowers, and try out what really looks good together with the colour palette of your interior.
  • Don’t limit yourself to just flowers – go crazy with it! Try out pebbles, shells, leaves, grasses; whatever you think looks great. After all, it’s your display – make it yours!
